BATON ROUGE — The LSU swimming and diving team closes its road schedule this weekend, beginning with a non-conference dual meet at TCU on Friday at 1 p.m.
The LSU men (0-4) take on the Horned Frogs for the first time since the 1993-94 season. The Tigers hold a 6-2 record all-time against the Conference USA foe, including a 126-111 victory in the last meeting between the two.
The LSU women (1-4) are 4-2 all-time against the school and last faced TCU in 1993-94 as well. The Lady Tigers dominated the Frogs, winning 139-77 at Forth Worth.
Both squads were defeated by nationally ranked Tennessee and Virginia last time out, and will look to post several top times as the SEC Championships approach next month.
“We look at it as another opportunity to compete at the level we need to be at as our championship season approaches,” said first-year head coach Adam Schmitt. “TCU will be a fun battle, and I expect some great swims from our team.”
Pacing the Tigers in the last two meets was senior diver Jessica Wantz, who won every event she competed in last weekend. For her performance, she was named SEC Diver of the Week for the second time in her career.
Schmitt praised Wantz’ efforts and the success she has given the team.
“To me it’s something I expect from her when you see what type of competitor she is,” said Schmitt. “She is certainly one of the top-notch divers in the nation and her success brings great attention to the program.”
Wantz is one of seven Tigers who call the state of Texas home. Jason Van Brunt, Colleen Bertirotti, Stefanie Carver, Cindy Martinez, Michelle Stabler and Melissa Stanley all swam their high school careers in the Lone Star state.
Immediately following Friday’s dual, LSU will travel nearly four hours south to College Station in preparation for the season’s final road meet at Texas A&M on Saturday at noon.
