BATON ROUGE — It will be the first top-10 match up of the season for the eighth-ranked LSU gymnastics team when it travels to Tuscaloosa Friday for a dual meet with No. 4 Alabama.

The meet will kick off at 7 p.m. in Coleman Coliseum.

“We have trained hard all week are excited for this meet,” said LSU head coach D-D Breaux. “We are planning on keeping the lineup similar to what it was last week. We just have to focus on cleaning up our landings and improving on last week’s performances.

“This is a big TV meet, so if we can go in and perform well it will certainly give this team some confidence heading into the rest of the season.”

The meet will be broadcast by ESPN2 on a tape delay basis. The first air date is scheduled for Sunday, January 30 at 2:00 p.m. (CT).

LSU (2-2, 1-0 SEC) is coming off a 195.625-195.500 upset victory over then No. 12 Florida last Friday in the PMAC. The Tigers will look to move to 2-0 in the conference against the Crimson Tide.

The meet will serve as the conference opener for Alabama, who is 4-2 on the season after defeating No. 9 Iowa, 195.975-193.750, last Friday and finishing third at the season-opening Super Six Challenge.

The Crimson Tide holds a 68-11-2 all-time series advantage over the Tigers, a record that includes a 21-1 mark at Coleman Coliseum. LSU finished behind Alabama in each of their three meetings last season. The Tigers last defeated the Tide in 2002, winning 196.925-196.575 in Baton Rouge.

Following the Alabama meet, the Tigers will return home to host No. 11 Michigan State in their first of three straight home meets on Jan. 28.
