BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Darrel Mitchell and Northwestern State’s Chassidy Jones were named Men’s and Women’s Player of the Week by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association, it was announced on Wednesday.
Mitchell, a junior guard for the Tigers, led LSU to wins over South Carolina and Ohio State last week, averaging 25.0 points and 3.5 assists in the victories. The Martinville, La., native poured in a career-high 32 points in the overtime victory over the Buckeyes and added 18 points in the win over South Carolina.
Jones, a sophomore guard for the Lady Demons, scored a career-high 28 points and grabbed nine rebounds in NSU’s victory over Southeastern Louisiana last week. She also had 10 points and five boards in a loss at Texas-Arlington earlier in the week.
The LSWA selects a weekly Player of the Week for men’s and women’s basketball from a list of nominations submitted by the state schools.
