Turner to Play in East-West Shrine Game, Hula Bowl

BATON ROUGE — LSU linebacker Lionel Turner will be busy over the next two week as he has accepted invitations to play in both the East-West Shrine Game and the Hula Bowl, the all star games announced.

This week, Turner will be among 100 of the country’s top college football players taking part in the 80th annual East-West Shrine Game in San Francisco on Saturday.

Turner, a native of Walker, La., will play for the East squad in the Shrine Game that will be televised from SBC Park at 1 p.m. CST on ESPN.

Turner will then fly from San Francisco to Maui for a week-long schedule of practice and activities before suiting up for the East squad in the Hula Bowl. Kickoff for the 2005 Hula Bowl is scheduled for 6 p.m. CST on Saturday, Jan. 22 from War Memorial Stadium in Maui. ESPN will televise the Hula Bowl to a national audience.

Turner, a first team All-Southeastern Conference pick in 2004, ranked second in the Tiger squad with 82 tackles this past season. He finished his career by starting 26 games at middle linebacker and he helped the Tigers to a 23-3 mark over that span.

In 49 career games, Turner registered 239 tackles, 19.5 tackles for losses and eight sacks.
