ATHENS, Ga. — The Georgia Diving Invitational came to a close here Wednesday morning with the men’s and women’s platform competition from the Gabrielsen Natatorium.

Sophomore Hali Saucier carried the momentum from yesterday’s top-five 1-meter finish. Saucier was the Tigers highest finisher in the women’s event, taking fifth place with a score of 373.85. Meanwhile, freshman Paige Brown, competing in her first official platform event, took home 10th-place honors by scoring a mark of 314.55.

“Both Hali and Paige competed very well, and it certainly gives them a starting point for the rest of the season,” said diving coach Doug Shaffer.

Purdue’s Carrie McCambridge took home top honors by winning with a score of 407.35.

In the men’s platform, sophomore Andrew Keane mastered the event by also finishing 10th with a mark of 387.05. Freshman Niko Dalman was withdrawn from the competition. Georgia’s Chris Colwill was victorious for the fourth time during the three-day event with a winning score of 546.80.

The three-day event was highlighted on Monday and Tuesday with superb diving performances by Saucier and Jessica Wantz. Wantz qualified for the finals of the 1-meter and 3-meter and also finished runner-up in the shootout portions of each event. Saucier delivered a fifth-place finish in the 1-meter on Tuesday.

“I was really happy with the overall competition,” added Shaffer. “It is always good to start off the year on a positive note. From here on out our competition gets going, and we will look to build on this as we enter the dual meet and championship seasons.”

LSU returns to action with the full swimming and diving squad in a dual meet at Kentucky on Thursday, Jan. 13 at 5 p.m. ET.
