BATON ROUGE — LSU continued to rack up the postseason awards on Saturday as offensive lineman Will Arnold has been named first-team freshman All-America by the Sporting News, the organization announced.
Arnold joins seniors Marcus Spears, Ben Wilkerson, and Corey Webster as LSU players who have earned All-America honors for their performance on the field in 2004. Rudy Niswanger earned academic All-America recognition for the Tigers as well.
Arnold, a redshirt freshman from Gloster, Miss., played in eight games for the 9-2 Tigers in 2004, starting five times. Arnold opened the season with a start at right guard against Oregon State. Arnold missed games against Arkansas State and Auburn with a knee injury before returning to action in a starting role against Mississippi State.
In eight games for the Tigers in 2004, Arnold recorded four pancakes and 13 knockdowns. He also played a key role in LSU’s rushing offense, one that led the league with over 200 yards per game.
Arnold was also named to the freshman All-Southeastern Conference team by the Sporting News. Last week, he was named to the freshman All-SEC team from the league’s coaches.
Joining Arnold on the Sporting News’ freshman All-SEC team for LSU was wide receiver Early Doucet. Doucet, a true freshman from St. Martinville, La., caught 17 passes for 255 yards and two touchdowns for the Tigers in 2004.
