Men’s Tennis Selected for 2005 National Team Indoors

BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s tennis team was among 16 in the nation selected to play in the 2005 USTA/ITA Men’s National Team Indoor Championships, LSU head coach Jeff Brown announced Monday.

The tournament will be hosted by defending champion Illinois at Chicago’s Midtown Tennis Club from Feb. 17-20. Only the top 13 teams in the country, plus three regional selections, are chosen.

“It is an excellent opportunity for us to play in this exclusive event,” said LSU head coach Jeff Brown.

It will be the first time since 2000, when the Tigers were ranked first nationally, for an LSU team to play in the tournament.

“It is one of our goals in the fall to play our way into this tournament with our individual results,” Brown said. “Now we will prepare as team to compete and get everything together.”

The Tigers are coming off a fall tournament season which saw several players go deep into national competitions.

“This fall we had more individuals and teams come together early than we have in recent years,” Brown said.

Four other Southeastern Conference teams were selected, including Georgia, Florida, Kentucky and Ole Miss. Defending national champion Baylor will also participate.
