BATON ROUGE — The LSU softball coaching staff will be speaking at the National Fastpitch Coaches Association national convention in Las Vegas on Sunday, Dec. 5 as part of the four-day event.

Head coach Yvette Girouard, associate head coach James DeFeo and assistant coach Lori Osterberg will give a one-hour seminar about “relating competitive success to practice” on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.

The convention will consist of two and a half days of clinic sessions, presented by some of the biggest names in softball. There are also forums to discuss changes and the future of the sport and a presentation by United States Olympic Committee sports psychologist James Bauman, Ph.D. on “Sports Psychology, Olympic Style”.

On Saturday evening, the convention will hold the Speedline National Coaching Staff of the Year/NFCA Hall of Fame awards banquet. The LSU coaching staff was honored as the South Region Coaching Staff of the Year this summer after leading the Tigers to their second appearance in the Women’s College World Series in 2004.

The NFCA is the professional growth organization for fastpitch softball coaches from all competitive levels of play. The membership of over 4,000 includes coaches from the collegiate ranks, as well as high school and travel ball coaches, umpires and other fans of fastpitch softball.

Besides services offered to the membership, the NFCA works with USA Today in producing polls for NCAA Division I and high school softball. In addition, NCAA Division II and Division III polls are produced. The NFCA also conducts collegiate tournament competitions, as well as recruiting camps throughout the nation. An annual NFCA National Convention is held every December.
