DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Two former LSU Lady Tiger golfers will be looking to keep their playing status on the LPGA tour beginning Wednesday when final qualifying begins for the makeup of the 2005 tour.
Ashley Winn, who played for the Tigers from 1995-98, and former United States Women’s Amateur champion Meredith Duncan (1999-02), both earned their cards for the 2004 season through this tournament but failed to make the top 90 in earnings for the year and must advance through this event to get back on a full-time basis for 2005. Winn is from West Monroe, while Duncan is a native of Shreveport.
A field of 137 players will compete for 30 full-time exemptions and 35 non-exempt cards that allow holders to compete in certain events when slots are available. Unlike last year, this year’s tournament is a five-round, 90-hole affair with a cut to the low 70 and ties after 72 holes over the Legends and Champions course at LPGA International.
Duncan finished 150th on the money list, earning just under $16,000 on the 2004 tour, while Winn earned a little over $6,000.
