BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s tennis team signed California recruit Mykala Hedberg, head coach Tony Minnis announced today.
Hedberg, one of the top players out of California, comes from Oxnard High School in Oxnard, Calif., and chose LSU over other schools such as Indiana, Illinois and Texas A&M.
She was also named player of the year by the Ventura County Newspaper for her accomplishments, including leading her high school to its first doubles title in school history.
In singles play, Hedberg has gone undefeated in her freshman through junior years, and is yet to lose a match her senior year.
Coach Tony Minnis said he is very impressed with what Hedberg has been able to accomplish and knows that her addition will help the Lady Tigers this season.
“Mykala is one of the best recruits we have had here,” he said. “She is a fierce competitor and has a tremendous attitude and work ethic. She will be a definite asset to the Tiger Family.”
