PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. — Marina Chiarelli and Camila Caliari of the LSU women’s tennis team took two big matches Saturday to win the doubles portion of their bracket in the SEC Coaches Classic.
The duo defeated Hayley and Tarryn Rudman of Mississippi State, 8-5, to claim the title in the tournament’s B bracket. They beat Renee Joseph and Magdi Rekasi, also of Mississippi State, in the semifinals earlier to get into the finals. That match was a 9-8 tiebreaker victory for the Lady Tigers pair.
“Marina and Camila played really well today,” coach Tony Minnis said. “They had to play two matches and fight hard to win the first in a tiebreaker and a tough second one as well.”
No more Lady Tigers remain in the main draws in their singles brackets, but consolation play will resume tomorrow. This tournament concludes fall play for the Lady Tigers, who will then begin preparation for the spring.
