Brown Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Second Team

BATON ROUGE — LSU women’s soccer player Artie Brown was named to the second team CoSIDA Academic All-District VI soccer team on Thursday.

The Baton Rouge native holds the school record for career goals and points, capped her LSU career with 40 goals and 92 points. As a senior this year, Brown led the Tigers and ranked second in the SEC with 14 goals. She also added three assists and totaled 31 points for the season. Brown graduated last spring with a 3.785 GPA in kinesiology.

In addition, Brown was named LSU’s 2004 offensive MVP by the coaching staff.

Stacy Bishop was named team MVP and Elena Sutherland was named Freshman of the Year and Defensive MVP. Bishop lead the team in assists with seven and had nine goals on the year, while Sutherland was the shut down defender for the Tigers coming up and making big time plays.

Chelsea Agar was given the 2004 LSU Team Academic award for her success in the classroom. Agar has held a 4.0 cumulative GPA while double majoring in both biochemistry and sociology.

Junior Kate Ripple from Baton Rouge was given the Gold Tiger/Julie Rowe award. The award is given to the LSU soccer athlete who works the hardest and shows the best character. The award is named after Julie Rowe, who passed away two years ago when she succumbed to cystic fibrosis. Rowe would get the best out of every day and always had a positive attitude. Rowe’s mother was on hand for the award ceremony and for the naming of the new pavilion at the LSU soccer complex in Julie Rowe’s honor.
