BATON ROUGE — The LSU gymnastics team will be featured on television four times during the 2005 season it has been announced by the SEC office.
Three of the Tigers’ regular season meets as well as the SEC Championships will be broadcast either nationally by ESPN2 or regionally by FOX Sports Net South, the Sunshine Network and FOX Sports Net Southwest on a tape delay basis.
LSU’s Jan. 21 contest at Alabama will reach over 88 million homes across the nation when it airs on ESPN2.
The Tigers will then be seen on FOX Sports Net South, the Sunshine Network and FOX Sports Net Southwest in successive weeks when they take on defending SEC champion, Georgia, Feb. 11 at the PMAC and Kentucky in Lexington on Feb. 18.
The SEC Championships on March 26 will also be broadcast by the three regional networks from Duluth, Ga.
“The amount of television coverage we’re receiving this year speaks volumes not only of our program, but of the reputation the University has,” said LSU head coach D-D Breaux.
The Tigers are coming off one of their most successful seasons in recent history, a year that saw them win the NCAA Central Regional title and place seventh at the national championships, the program’s best finish since the 1993 season.
LSU lost just two letterwinners from a year ago and return NCAA Central Region and SEC Gymnast of the Year April Burkholder, as well as All-American Annie Gagnon.
The Tigers begin the 2005 campaign Jan. 7 at Michigan State.
