BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Junior Lauren Seaman and freshman Staten Spencer of the LSU women’s tennis team captured the doubles title in day two of the Hoosier Classic, capping off a successful Saturday for the Lady Tigers.
Seaman and Spencer defeated Laura McGaffigan and Kara Zeder of Indiana in the finals, 8-6, to capture the title.
“Those two did a very good job in winning this tournament,” said LSU head coach Tony Minnis. “It was the first time we put them together, and they beat two pretty good teams and played some solid ball.”
LSU’s two other doubles teams of Marina Chiarelli and Tiffany Tucker and Daysi Espinal and Camila Caliari earned victories in their semifinal matches in the consolation bracket.
Four Lady Tigers earned singles victories in the quarterfinal round of the consolation bracket, including Seaman, Chiarelli, Espinal and Caliari.
“Everybody won their singles match today except for the two freshmen,” said Minnis. “That says a lot about our upper classmen. They played with poise coming back from their matches yesterday.”
The Lady Tigers return to action Sunday in the final day of competition, with play beginning at 10 a.m.
