Tigers Face Alabama in Final SEC Home Contest

BATON ROUGE — The LSU volleyball team will play its final Southeastern Conference home match as the Tigers host Alabama on Sunday at 2 p.m. for Senior Day in the Maravich Center.

The match will be televised on SEC-TV on FSN Southwest in Baton Rouge (cable channel 38). The Tigers swept Auburn, 3-0, on Friday night at home to improve to 12-9 overall and 4-7 in SEC play. The Crimson Tide was swept at Arkansas and fell to 16-6 on t he season and 6-5 in league play.

“We did some good things on Friday night in our win over Auburn,” said LSU head coach Fran Flory. “We had Dee (Romero) back from injury and she did an outstanding job running our offense and Jelena (Mijatovic) did a great job on the outside. We have to go into this match and just concentrate on executing on our side of the net. If we can take care of the ball and do the things we can control, then we can be successful.”

The match will be the final home SEC contests for three LSU seniors. Regan Hood, Rachel Pittman and Beth Cowley will be honored following the match with Senior Day presentations.

Earlier in the season, LSU lost to Alabama, 30-23, 30-17, 30-25, in Tuscaloosa. In that match, the Tigers were led by Hood with eight kills and a .208 hitting percentage. Mijatovic also had seven kills, while Kassi Mikulik recorded six. Mijatovic also led LSU with six digs. Romero posted a team-best four blocks.

Alabama was paced by Julie Farley and Erin Heffner with 13 kills each. Crystal Hudson was also in double-figures with 10 kills. Kelley Potter led the Crimson Tide with 10 digs, while Farley led the team with five blocks.

LSU is 19-18 all time against Alabama, including a 9-4 record at home. The Tigers have lost five of the last six meetings, but are 2-1 in the last three meetings in Baton Rouge.

After taking on Alabama, LSU will close out its final four SEC matches on the road. The Tigers will travel to face South Carolina and Tennessee next weekend before taking on Arkansas and Ole Miss the following weekend.
