BATON ROUGE — The LSU softball team held its second annual Tiger Triathlon through the campus on Wednesday, in a course that included running, biking and swimming.
The Tigers began with a half-mile swim at the LSU Natatorium. The team then biked for two miles and ran for two miles through the west part of campus, including Nicholson Drive, Skip Bertman Drive and along the Mississippi River levee down River Road.
Sophomore pitcher Emily Turner turned in a team-best time of 27:34 for the event. She was followed by junior outfielder Lauren Castle in second with a time of 28:32, and sophomore catcher Kristen Hobbs finished in third with a time of 29:35.
The Tigers will open the 2005 campaign on the road at the UNLV Desert Classic in Las Vegas from Feb. 11-13. LSU will take on Washington, which went to the WCWS last season, Illinois, which the Tigers defeated to advance to the WCWS, Central Florida, and Louisville.
LSU will open play at home in the Tiger Classic on Feb. 18-20. The Tigers will face Indiana, Grambling State and Southern in the three-day tournament at Tiger Park.
