BATON ROUGE — A trust fund has been established to assist with medical bills the Hixon family has incurred following on-field accident that critically injured former LSU wide receiver Drew Hixon.
Hixon, who is the son of former LSU wide receivers coach Stan Hixon, suffered a serious brain injury following a collision with defenders during Tennessee Tech’s game against South Florida on Sept. 11 in Tampa. Hixon played two seasons at LSU before transferring to Tennessee Tech in 2002.
Hixon, who spent nearly a month at a hospital in Tampa, has since be re-located to a brain trauma facility at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, which placed him closer to his family’s home in the Washington D.C. area.
“He’s making progress,” Stan Hixon, who is now a coach with the Washington Redskins, said on Wednesday. “We’re happy with the progress that he’s made, but he still has a long way to go. Our family is so thankful and appreciative for all of the support that people have given Drew.”
Donations for Drew Hixon can be sent to the Kenneth Drew Hixon Trust Fund, Bank of America, 8300 Greensboro Drive, Suite 500, McLean, VA 22102.
