BATON ROUGE — Coming off their second Women’s College World Series appearances in the last four years, the LSU softball team completed its fall schedule with three wins last weekend.

The defending Southeastern Conference champion Tigers defeated Southeastern Louisiana, 7-0, on Thursday and swept a doubleheader against Southern on Friday, winning 12-0 and 10-1 in five innings each.

As a team, LSU hit .465 for the weekend with 40 hits and 29 total runs, outscoring its opponents, 29-1. In 17 innings, the Tiger pitching staff composed of sophomore Emily Turner, freshman Megan Jolly and freshman Tiffany Garcia combined for a perfect 0.00 earned run average, allowing just one unearned run with seven walks and 28 strikeouts.

At the plate, junior Lauren Castle and sophomore Kristin Hobbs led LSU with six hits each and a .667 batting average. In addition, Hobbs recorded a home run for the Tigers.

Freshmen Killian Roessner, Vanessa Soto and Quinlan Duhon each posted five hits and a .500 batting average, while junior Camille Harris hit .400 with a pair of home runs. Freshmen Erika Sluss and Andrea Smith each had three hits, while junior Stephanie Hill had a pair and a .300 batting average. Freshman Dee-Dee Henderson recorded a hit, while also swiping a team-best four stolen bases.

The Tigers will open the 2005 campaign on the road at the UNLV Desert Classic in Las Vegas from Feb. 11-13. LSU will take on Washington, which went to the WCWS last season, Illinois, which the Tigers defeated in the NCAA Regional championship to advance to the WCWS, Central Florida, and Louisville.

LSU will open play at home in the Tiger Classic on Feb. 18-20. The Tigers will face Indiana, Grambling State and Southern in the three-day tournament at Tiger Park.
