BATON ROUGE — LSU will hold the ninth annual Halloween BOOzar, a trick-or-treat evening for children featuring Tiger student-athletes from all sports, on Thursday, Oct. 28 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse.
Area families are invited to the Fieldhouse to enjoy a safe evening of Halloween fun with their favorite LSU student-athletes. Children are encouraged to wear their favorite costumes to the event. Each year the BOOzar has grown in popularity and last year over 500 children and 100 student-athletes participated in the event.
Families that attend the BOOzar will get a chance to meet student-athletes and coaches from every sport, while participating in interactive games and fun, safe trick-or-treating. As an added benefit this year, child identification fingerprinting kits will be distributed to parents to help safeguard their children.
While admission to the BOOzar is free, the event does kick off the annual CHAMPS Thanksgiving Food Drive. Families attending the BOOzar are asked to donate canned goods. Barrels from the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank will be set up inside the Field house to handle donations.
The BOOzar is organized each year by the Student-Athlete Advisory Council as part of the CHAMPS (Challenging Athletes Minds for Personal Success)/Life Skills Program. The CHAMPS program was designed by the NCAA to help student-athletes realize higher academic achievement, increase likelihood of graduation and enter a chosen profession with a higher level of vision, knowledge, motivation, self-responsibility and greater overall success. In Spring 2003, the CHAMPS/ Life Skills Program at LSU was named in honor of Shaquille O’Neal, one of the Tigers’ most memorable graduates.
