BATON ROUGE — LSU, the reigning Bowl Championship Series National Champion, is ranked No. 19 in the first BCS standings, which were released on Monday by the National Football Foundation.
Southern Cal, the No. 1 ranked team in both the Associated Press poll and the USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll, is ranked No. 1 in the BCS standings with a .9912 average. They are followed by Miami at No. 2 with a .9187 average, with Oklahoma at No. 3 with a .9161 average and Auburn No. 4 at .9036. Florida State rounds out the top five in the BCS standings with a .8072 average.
LSU, who beat Oklahoma, 21-14, to claim last year’s BCS National Title, accumulated a BCS average of .2819, which is good enough for 19th place in the standings. Other SEC teams in the BCS standings include Tennessee at No. 11 with a .6331 average, Georgia at No. 10 with a .6090 average and Florida at No. 22 with a .1900 average.
This year’s BCS standings factors in both the AP poll and the USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll along with that of the six computer rankings for an average. The BCS average is calculated by averaging the percent totals of the AP poll, the USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll and the computer polls.
