Soccer Looking for Win as No. 19 Auburn Comes to Town

BATON ROUGE — The LSU soccer team will take on No. 19 Auburn on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the LSU Soccer Complex.

“Auburn is a good team, and they are going to come out playing a 3-4-3,” said LSU co-head coach Danielle Fotopoulos. “The 3-4-3 is not something we have seen before, but I think we are ready. We like a 3-4-3 because we like to counter attack.”

LSU (6-8-1, 1-5-1 SEC) comes into the game looking to end its three game skid against Auburn (11-2-1, 6-0-1 SEC). The Tigers are 4-6 all-time against Auburn with the last win against Auburn coming in the 2002 SEC Tournament when the Tigers upset the number one seed 1-0. The game marked the first time that an eight seed defeated a one seed at the SEC tournament.

Auburn comes into the game undefeated in SEC play, having won four straight games. Auburn defeated Arkansas on Friday, 1-0, as junior Courtney Crandell of Auburn scored with 1:11 left in the game.

Baton Rouge native Artie Brown is still looking for the career goals and points record held by Jackie Cooper. Brown’s 34 goals is only two back of the 36 goals Cooper scored from 1995-1996, and Brown is only four points back of Cooper’s 82 points with 78.

“It is going to be a great game because Auburn is trying to seal the SEC West Championship,” said Fotopoulos. “We are going to come out and do our best to not let that happen and have a good time and play hard.”

The match will be televised on tape delay on Cox Sports Television. The Tigers will split next weekend at home against Florida on Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. CST and on the road at South Carolina on Oct. 24 at noon.
