BATON ROUGE — The LSU soccer team will take on the Alabama Crimson Tide in a vital game Friday at 7 p.m. at the LSU Soccer Complex.
“Alabama is a very good team,” said LSU co-head coach Danielle Fotopoulos. “They have a good defense and they have played teams tough so far. Don Staley is a very good coach, so you know they are going to come in ready to play.”
The Tigers come into the match with a 6-7-1 overall record and a 1-4-1 mark in conference play. LSU has only one win against Alabama in school history. That Tiger win came in George Fotopoulos‘ first year at LSU as the Tigers defeated Alabama 2-1 at home on Oct. 13, 2000.
Alabama comes into Baton Rouge with a 6-8-0 overall record and a 2-4-0 mark in SEC play. The Crimson Tide defeated Ole Miss, 1-0, on Friday and lost to Mississippi State, 2-1, on Sunday. Alabama is led by freshman Jordan O’Banion with a team-high seven goals and 14 points. Alabama’s other forward Libby Probist has four goals, two assists and ten points for the Crimson Tide.
Baton Rouge native Artie Brown moved closer to the career goals and points records last weekend with her goal against Tennessee. Brown with 34 career goals and 78 career points is only two goals and four points back of Jackie Cooper who hold both records. Cooper scored 36 goals from 1995-1996 and had a total of 82 points. Sophomore Stacy Bishop is only two goals from moving to fourth place on the career goals with 20 career goals.
LSU will host Auburn on Oct. 17 to finish the weekend. The Tigers will split next weekend at home against Florida on Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. CST and on the road at South Carolina on Oct. 24 at noon.
