Softball Welcomes Two for Fall Tournament

BATON ROUGE — After the LSU Fall Collegiate Classic was cancelled due to rain last weekend, the defending Southeastern Conference champion LSU softball team will host four games this week, starting with a doubleheader against Southeastern Louisiana on Thursday at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The Tigers, who finished third in the Women’s College World Series in 2004, will the close out play at home this fall with a doubleheader against Southern University on Friday at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Admission is free and the public is invited to attend the games at Tiger Park.

LSU completed last season with a 57-12 record and won its fifth SEC championship and fourth SEC Tournament championship in the last six years. The Tigers swept through the NCAA Regional Tournament in Waco, Texas, to advance to the Women’s College World Series for the second time in four years. LSU returns five starters, a pitcher and eight letterwinners from last season’s phenomenal team.

The Tigers will open the 2005 campaign on the road at the UNLV Desert Classic in Las Vegas from Feb. 11-13. LSU will take on Central Florida, Washington, Illinois and Louisville.

The Tigers will open play at home in the LSU Tiger Classic on Feb. 18-20 in Tiger Park. LSU will face Indiana, Grambling State and Southern in the three-day tournament.
