BATON ROUGE — LSU head men’s basketball coach John Brady and assistant swimming coach Anne Blachford will be celebrity mentors Friday for the Big Buddy Program’s seventh annual Day of the Mentor.
Under the Big Buddy Program, the Day of the Mentor event serves as a recruiting tool that breaks down barriers between adults that can be mentors and children that need mentors. The event has resulted in over 30 adults each year making a commitment to share their wisdom and experience with a child in need.
“As important figures in Baton Rouge, the appearance of these LSU coaches at Day of the Mentor will bring a sense of importance and will inspire other community leaders to participate,” said Bethany King, mentoring director for the Big Buddy Program. “We hope their support of the mentoring movement will encourage others to take the issue of mentoring more seriously.”
As a celebrity mentor, the coaches will attend a Friday morning breakfast at Boudreaux’s Restaurant, and then will spend the day in their workplace with a child from the Big Buddy Program in East Baton Rouge Parish. King says this year’s Day of the Mentor will be the biggest attended event in its history as over 90 Big Buddies will participate.
