BATON ROUGE — Sylvia Fowles, a freshman center on the LSU Lady Tigers basketball team, was named the student-athlete of the month for the month of September, it was announced by the Cox Communication Academic Center of Student-Athletes.
Fowles, a Maimi, Fla., native, completed six hours of course work with a 3.0 grade point average in September to earn the honor. The honor is award to five nominated student-athletes each month based on their academic excellence.
Including Fowles, the five Lady Tigers freshman combined to post a 3.6 GPA during the summer, while the team had three student-athletes earn a perfect 4.0 in the summer and Temeka Johnson and Crystal White both graduated in August.
