Tigers Continue to Prepare for Georgia

BATON ROUGE — LSU continued its preparation for Saturday’s contest against third-ranked Georgia with a spirited two-hour workout at the Charles McClendon Practice Facility here Wednesday.

The 13th-ranked Tigers, coming off a 51-0 win over Mississippi State last week, head into the Georgia game with a 3-1 overall mark and a 1-1 league record. Georgia, 13-3 winners over Marshall in its last game two weeks ago, will carry a 3-0 mark into Saturday’s contest.

“Practice has been pretty good this week,” LSU coach Nick Saban said after Wednesday’s workout. “I think we’ve had a little bit more spirit and a little more spunk on really both sides of the ball. Yesterday (Tuesday) the defense had some spunk and today the offense had a little more spunk.

“There has been a lot of competition out there this week and I think that’s good. That’s the way you get better and I’ve been pleased with the way we’ve practiced.”

Saturday’s contest against the Bulldogs will be LSU’s second road contest of the year. Two weeks ago, LSU dropped a 10-9 road decision to Auburn. A year ago, LSU went 5-0 on the road en route to a 13-1 overall record and the national title.

“I think that we have to prove that we can go on the road and have the mental and physical kind of focus that you need to have for 60 minutes in the game,” Saban said. “We have to have the kind of resiliency to play well on the road and overcome a lot of adversity from a good football team. We’ll see where we’re at (on Saturday).”

Saban said the Tigers enter the Georgia game in good shape from an injury standpoint and that wide receiver Skyler Green should be available against the Bulldogs. Green has been out of action since the Oregon State contest after suffering an ankle injury in late August.

“Skyler’s doing well,” Saban said. “This is by far the best he’s done. He’s done things with a lot more consistency and it doesn’t seem like he’s limping. He’s made a lot of progress and hopefully he’s getting the same kind of confidence in himself and his ankle that we see in him.”

The Tigers practice again on Thursday followed by a walk-thru in Tiger Stadium on Friday afternoon before departing for Atlanta. Saturday’s contest will be televised to a national audience by CBS and starts at 2:30 p.m. CT.

The game can also be heard on the LSU Sports Network and Sirius Satellite Radio.
