BATON ROUGE — The LSU soccer team held two days of soccer clinics for local members of the Baton Rouge Soccer Association and the YMCA at the LSU Soccer Complex Tuesday, Sept. 21 and Wednesday, Sept. 22.
“It was just great to have a few hundred kids come out to our clinic, and it wasn’t just good for the coaches but also the players,” said LSU co-head coach George Fotopoulos. “It is great when we can give back to the community and to Baton Rouge, especially in soccer. We want to see soccer grow and become great in the area.”
Over 250 people participated in the Tuesday Kickoff and Tiger Soccer Kickoff. The Clinics were held create interest in the sport and in anticipation of the Tigers first SEC game.
The Tigers will begin SEC play against Kentucky Friday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. in the “Cram the Complex” game, in hopes of breaking the record for the largest home crowd. The current record is 1,421 when LSU defeated Ole Miss 2-0 Sept. 8, 1995. Tickets are available for only $1, and all LSU students, faculty and staff will get in free with an LSU ID. There will be over $500 in prizes given away including a TV/DVD combo and a Nick Saban autographed football.
