Soccer Begins SEC Play as Kentucky Comes to Town

BATON ROUGE — The Tiger soccer team is set to start SEC play this weekend against Kentucky on Friday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m at the Tiger Soccer Complex in a match being dubbed “Cram the Complex” by the LSU Marketing and Promotions Department.

The Tigers (5-3-0, 0-0 SEC) are 0-7 all-time against the Wildcats (3-4-0, 0-0 SEC). The last time the two teams met was Oct. 3, 2003 when Kentucky beat LSU 2-0 in Lexington, Ky.

Kentucky comes into the game off of a 1-0 win against Missouri last Friday, Sept. 17. The Wildcats are on a three game winning streak after losing the first four games of the season.

The Wildcats are lead by sophomore forward Elisabeth Jones who was the SEC Offensive player of the week. She leads the team in points with ten and assists with six. Jones also has two goals this season.

The Tigers are lead by Baton Rouge native Artie Brown and sophomore Stacy Bishop. Bishop leads the team in scoring with 13 points and assists with five, while Brown leads the team in goals with six and game-winning goals with four.

Tickets are available for only $1, and all LSU students, faculty and staff will get in free with an LSU ID. There will be over $500 in prizes given away including a TV/DVD combo and a Nick Saban autographed football.

LSU will take on Vanderbilt on Sunday, Sept. 26 to finish its first SEC weekend. The Tigers will spend the next weekend on the road, as the Tigers will travel to play Ole Miss on Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. and Mississippi State on Oct. 3 at 1 p.m.
