BATON ROUGE — LSU’s thrilling 22-21 overtime win over Oregon State last Saturday has been dubbed an “Instant Classic” by ESPN and will be aired on Thursday night at 6 p.m. on ESPN Classic, the network announced on Tuesday.
In the game, quarterback JaMarcus Russell came off the bench to lead the Tigers to a pair of touchdowns, including a 38-yard TD pass to Dwayne Bowe with just over a minute left that pulled the Tigers to within two points. Russell then tied the contest at 15-15 by successfully converting the two-point conversion, which sent the game into overtime.
In overtime and with Russell cramping, starting quarterback Marcus Randall returned to the contest and ran for a 5-yard TD that gave the Tigers their first lead of the game at 21-15. Chris Jackson’s extra-point extended the LSU lead to 22-15.
Trailing 22-15 and facing a fourth-and-four situation at the LSU 19-yard line, Oregon State quarterback Derek Anderson found Joe Newton in the endzone for a touchdown to bring the Beavers to within 22-21. The game appeared to be headed for a second overtime, however Oregon State placekicker Alexis Serna’s extra-point sailed wide right, his third miss of the contest, and the Tigers escaped with a one-point victory.
