Girouard Appointed to Term on NCAA Softball Rules Committee

BATON ROUGE — LSU head coach Yvette Girouard has been appointed to the NCAA Softball Rules Committee, which oversees the rules for NCAA Division I, II and III softball, for a term of three years, which expires on Sept. 1, 2007.

The Rules Committee will meet in San Diego, Calif., on Tues., July 6, to discuss additions, modifications and changes to the softball current rules. The Rules Committee was established in 1997 to promote the development of intercollegiate fastpitch rules and have been updated annually.

The Rules Committee covers both administrative and conduct rules. Administrative rules typically deal with the preparation for games, including size and layout of the field, the tiebreaker rule and called or halted games. Conduct rules include actual playing conditions, including playing equipment, game situations, umpire calls, etc. The Rules Committee also oversees the Code of Conduct for coaches and umpires.

Along with Girouard, members of the Rules Committee include chair Marge Willadson of Division III Buena Vista University, Secretary-Rules Editor Dee Abrahamson of Northern Illinois University, Diane Boettcher of Division III Middleburry College, Tina Laster of Division III Hampton University, Marianne Vydra of Oregon State University , Christi Wade of Division II Saint Leo University, Lynn Wheeler of the University of Texas and Scott Woodard of Division II Western New Mexico University.
