BATON ROUGE — Former LSU basketball player Maurice Carter was one of 19 players selected Tuesday by the Charlotte Bobcats in the 2004 NBA Expansion Draft for the franchise which will begin play in the 2004-05 season.

Carter, who started the season with the Los Angeles Lakers and finished the year with the New Orleans Hornets, saw action in 10 games this past season (six with the Hornets). Carter averaged 4.2 points in those 10 games and 11.2 minutes of playing time.

The Jackson, Miss., native, who is 6-5, 210 pounds, lettered for four years at LSU (1995-99), averaging 12.0 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 108 games. He finished his college career with 1,299 points.

Of Carter, Charlotte GM and Head Coach Bernie Bickerstaff said on NBA.com, “He is a combo guy who can really score. He has a lot of experience throughout the minor leagues. But I think he is a guy who can make an NBA roster because of his ability to score the basketball.”
