BATON ROUGE — LSU assistant track coach Irving “Boo” Schexnayder was named the Mondo National Assistant Coach of the Year for men’s jumps and multi-events it was announced by the United States Track Coaches Association.
Schexnayder, widely regarded as one of the top field event coaches in country, guided his athletes to an impressive three individual NCAA titles and 12 All-America honors during the 2004 season.
Under his tutelage senior John Moffitt became the first athlete in LSU history to ever sweep the men’s NCAA long jump titles, claiming the outdoor crown on the final jump of the evening last weekend in Austin, Texas.
During the indoor season, Schexnayder led the Tigers to an unprecedented 1-2-3 finish in the triple jump. The 24 combined points earned by champion LeJuan Simon, runner-up Moffitt and third-place finisher Willie Bradley spearheaded the Tigers to the NCAA Indoor title in March.
Since his arrival at LSU, Schexnayder has coached nine different athletes to a total of 18 NCAA titles. He has been responsible for at least one national champion in seven of his nine seasons at LSU and has guided his athletes to an astounding 67 All-America honors.
