BATON ROUGE — LSU pitcher Nate Bumstead and shortstop Blake Gill were selected Tuesday during the final day of the Major League Baseball draft.
Bumstead was chosen in the 32nd round (943rd pick) by the Detroit Tigers, and Gill was selected in the 37th round (1097th pick) by the Cleveland Indians.
MLB teams completed the final 32 rounds of the 50-round draft on Tuesday, after completing the first 18 rounds on Monday.
LSU outfielders Jon Zeringue (Arizona Diamondbacks) and J.C. Holt (Atlanta Braves) were selected in the second and third rounds, respectively, on Monday.
Bumstead, a senior right-hander from Las Vegas, leads LSU in victories this season with a 10-3 record. He has a 3.51 ERA in 89.2 innings, allowing 35 earned runs on 98 hits with 17 walks and 51 strikeouts.
Bumstead helped lead LSU to the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional title last weekend, posting a complete-game victory over Southern Mississippi on Saturday. He was named to the regional all-tournament team after limiting USM to two runs on eight hits with two walks and six strikeouts.
Gill, a junior from Bradenton, Fla. is hitting .344 (75-for-218) with 11 doubles, four triples, five homers, 40 RBI and 39 runs.
Gill was named the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional last weekend, batting .455 (5-for-11) in three games with one double, one triple, one homer, seven RBI and two runs.
