BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s tennis team was ranked 13th in nation in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association Poll released Friday. They also had five players listed in individual rankings.
The Tigers finished the season with an 18-7 mark and tied for third in the Southeastern Conference. They reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament before they were eliminated by No. 11-ranked Rice.
It is the fifth time in head coach Jeff Brown‘s seven-season tenure that his teams were ranked in the top-13. Brown won two SEC Championships and has taken all of his teams to postseason play. He guided the Tigers two Final Fours and two Sweet Sixteens.
Bryan Fisher and Jason Hazley were ranked 15th in the final doubles poll. Fisher and Hazley reached the second round of the NCAA Doubles Championship Tournament. They were ranked in the top-20 for most of the season and were both named second-team All-SEC.
Ken Skupski finished his first season at LSU as the second-highest ranking freshman in the nation in singles at No. 34. Skupski, a first-team All-SEC selection and the Louisiana freshman of the year, played in the NCAA Singles Championship Tournament and defeated 11 ranked opponents in 2003-04.
Seniors Cory Ross and Sebastian Rutka were ranked No. 51 after finishing the season with a 13-1 record.
All 12 SEC teams finished in the top-40, led by Ole Miss at No. 5, Georgia at No. 6 and Florida at No. 8. LSU also faced five out-of-conference opponents listed in the final rankings, including No. 20 Tulane and No. 58 Louisiana-Lafayette.
