BATON ROUGE — LSU sprinter Muna Lee was named the Mideast Region Women’s Athlete of the Year it was announced Friday by the United States Track Coaches Association.
Lee, a senior from Kansas City, Mo., swept the short sprint titles at last week’s Mideast Regional Championships, winning the 100 and 200-meter dashes with season-best times of 11.00 and 22.22, respectively.
By virtue of her first-place finishes, the 17-time All-American automatically advanced to next week’s NCAA Championships in both events. In addition, she will anchor the Lady Tigers’ top-ranked 4×100-meter relay team as they vie for a second straight national title in the event.
Lee enters the NCAA Championships ranked No. 2 in the 100 meters and No. 3 in the 200 meters this season.
