BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Lady Tiger and Tiger track and field teams will enter next week’s NCAA Outdoor Championships ranked No. 2 and No. 3 respectively, according to the final Trackwire 25 polls released Friday.
There was little movement in the men’s top five as the SEC held on to the top four positions. Arkansas and Auburn lead the pack at No. 1 and No. 2 respectively. They are followed by LSU and Florida. UCLA rounds out the top five after Ohio State dropped one spot to No. 6.
On the women’s side, UCLA held onto the No. 1 position for a second straight week. LSU, the defending NCAA Outdoor champions, follow at No. 2. Texas is third, while Nebraska and Georgia each moved up one spot to fourth and fifth respectively.
Individually, LSU will have 16 athletes and four relay teams that are all ranked among the top-12 at the national meet. All-American hurdler Lolo Jones and the Lady Tigers’ 4×100 each hold down No. 1 rankings. Sprinter Muna Lee is listed at No. 2 in both the 100 and the 200 meters and Tiger LeJuan Simon has also earned a No. 2 ranking in the triple jump.
LSU, the reigning men’s and women’s NCAA Indoor national champions, will go for an unprecedented sweep of the 2004 NCAA titles, when they travel to Austin, Texas, June 9-12, for the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
