BATON ROUGE, La. — Sixth-ranked LSU and No. 13 Tulane seek to set the college baseball single-game attedance record at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday when the teams meet in the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans.

Two years ago, the state of Louisiana laid claim to the college baseball single game attendance record when an April 2002 game between Tulane and LSU drew a crowd of 27,673 in the Superdome.
But on March 11, 2004, a crowd of 40,106 fans packed San Diego’s brand new PETCO Park to watch a college game between San Diego State and Houston, breaking the mark set at the ’02 Tulane-LSU contest.

LSU coach Smoke Laval will send junior left-hander Lane Mestepey (4-1, 3.86 ERA) to the mound Tuesday, while Tulane coach Rick Jones plans to counter with sophomore right-hander Billy Mohl (6-2, 3.53 ERA).
The Tigers enter the Tulane game Tuesday with an 11-1 mark this season against Louisiana schools. LSU has won 14 of 15 games versus its in-state foes over the last two seasons.
LSU has a 39-9 record against Louisiana schools during Laval’s three-year tenure as head coach.
LSU leads the all-time series with Tulane, 156-118-3, as the teams first met in 1893. The Tigers have won five of the last eight games between the clubs, though Tulane recorded a 1-0 victory in the teams’ last meeting on April 6 in Alex Box Stadium.
Laval has a 6-6 career mark against Tulane, while Jones has a 13-15 career record versus LSU in 11 seasons as the Green Wave coach.
