BATON ROUGE — The players and coaching staff have been divided into Purple and White teams, as LSU will wrap up its spring drills on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Tiger Stadium with the annual “Steak and Beans” spring game.
Tickets can be purchased on Saturday at the LSU ticket office for $10. Tickets will also be on sale at the “Hungry Tiger” stand, which is located just off North Stadium Road on the northeast side of Tiger Stadium.
The first 5,000 fans into the stadium will receive a commemorative 2003 National Championship LSU keychain courtesy of Bank One. In addition, 2004 LSU football schedule posters as well as schedule cards will be distributed on Saturday.
Saturday’s contest will be televised live by Cox Sports Television as well as being broadcast by KLSU Radio on 91.1 FM.
“I think the teams are pretty equally split up,” LSU coach Nick Saban said. “Hopefully, the players will go out and compete. We’ll keep it very, very simple. We just hope that everybody plays hard, gives a lot of effort, and can go out there and execute, play together as a group and support each other so that we have the best chance to be successful.”
Saturday’s spring game will be played much like that of a regular season contest in that there will be four, 15-minute quarters. The game will be played with a running clock, except for the last three minutes of each half and on scoring plays, penalties and change of possession.
The winner of the spring game will be treated to a steak dinner with all of the trimmings next week, while the losing team will be forced to eat beans. Last year, the Purple squad posted a 24-21 win over the White team.
