BATON ROUGE — LSU junior Ryan Patterson and Northwestern State junior Clayton Turner were chosen as this week’s Louisiana Sports Writers Association Players of the Week as chosen by an LSWA panel.
Patterson earned Hitter of the Week honors, while Turner earned the nod as the Pitcher of the Week.
Patterson led LSU to four wins in five games this past week, hitting .500 (11-for-22) with two doubles, one triple, three homers, 11 RBI and five runs scored. The Rowlett, Texas, product posted a 1.091 slugging percentage, a .500 on-base percentage and he recorded two stolen bases. In LSU’s series victory over Georgia, Patterson hit .462 (6-for-13) with one double, one triple, two homers, six RBI and three runs. Patterson entered this week on a 10-game hitting streak.
Turner, from Taylor, Texas, had a career game on Friday, shutting out Sam Houston State 10-0 while allowing just two singles and no walks while striking out nine in a run-rule shortened seven-inning game. In improving his record to 8-1 on the season, Turner retired the first nine batters faced before giving up back-to-back singles and then retiring the final 12 batters of the game.
