Lady Tigers 1st, Tigers 2nd in Latest Trackwire Rankings

BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Lady Tiger track and field team held steady at No. 1, while the Tigers dropped to No. 2 in the latest Trackwire 25 rankings released Tuesday.

This is the 12th straight week the Lady Tigers have held on to the nation’s top spot. They are followed by UCLA, Texas, Nebraska and Florida in the standings.

In the men’s poll, Arkansas jumped ahead of the Tigers to claim this week’s No. 1 position. Fellow SEC competitors, Florida and Auburn, follow in third and fourth, respectively, while Baylor rounds out the top five.

Individually, LSU has two relay teams and two athletes ranked No. 1 this week. Both the Tigers and Lady Tigers top the standings in the 4×100-meter relay, owning NCAA-leading times of 38.93 and 43.35, respectively.

NCAA Indoor champion John Moffitt is ranked No. 1 in the long jump for the third straight week. He currently leads the nation in the event with a mark of 26-4 1/4.

All-American Lolo Jones tops the standings in the 100-meter hurdles. She owns the nation’s second-best time in the event after clocking 12.78 at the Texas Relays.

The national champion LSU track and field team returns to action this weekend, April 22-24, when it travels to Philadelphia, Penn., for the 110th annual Penn Relays.
