Hodges Taken by Los Angeles Sparks in WNBA Second Round

NEW YORK — Doneeka Hodges, a senior on this past season’s LSU Lady Tigers basketball team, was selected by the Los Angles Sparks with the 25th overall pick of the 2004 WNBA draft on Saturday afternoon.

Hodges, a native of New Orleans, averaged 11.4 points and 3.2 rebounds during her four year career at LSU. She was the second leading scoring on this season’s team that advanced to the program’s first Final Four, averaging 13.9 points per contest. The guard finished her collegiate career 10th scoring, second in games played, and second in three-pointers made and attempted.

The Sparks picked Hodges with their second pick, the 12th pick of the second round. Los Angeles posted a 24-10 record in 2003 and finished first in the Western Division before being defeated by the Detroit Shock in the WNBA Finals.

Hodges is the fourth player in the past two seasons to be drafted from LSU. Post players Aiysha Smith, DeTrina White and Ke-Ke Tardy were selected during last season’s draft.
