METAIRIE, La. — LSU’s Lady Tigers basketball team, the 2004 NCAA West Regional Champions and Final Four participant, will be honored by the New Orleans Zephyrs AAA baseball team on Friday prior to the home opener against the Iowa Cubs.
The entire team, including New Orleans natives Temeka Johnson, Doneeka Hodges and Khalilah Mitchell will throw out the ceremonial first pitch before the game which begins at 7:05 p.m. CDT.
“Being honored at a baseball game is somewhat unique for our program,” acting head coach Pokey Chatman said. “But on the heels of our Final Four appearance in New Orleans, and with the tremendous support we were shown in this community, it is something that we are very excited about.”
LSU (27-8) finished the season ranked third in the coaches poll, the highest final ranking in the program’s history. The team also advanced to the Final Four for the first time, defeating Georgia in the West Regional Final.
