BATON ROUGE — LSU men’s basketball assistant coach Rickey Broussard has announced his resignation from the LSU basketball staff to take an administrative position within the LSU Athletics Department.
Broussard served as assistant coach for the Tigers for the past two seasons, joining LSU prior to the 2002-03 season.
“It is an honor for me to have coached at LSU where I have gained valuable experience on the SEC level,” Broussard said. “I am appreciative that I will be able to work in the athletics department in a position that (LSU athletics director) Skip Bertman feels I can be helpful while pursing other business or head coaching opportunities.”
Broussard was head coach at Nicholls State University from 1990 to 2002, winning two Southland Conference championships and taking the Colonels to two NCAA tournaments. He was named Coach of the Year three times in the SLC before joining LSU as an assistant coach. In his two years with the Tigers, LSU went 39-22 while participating in the NCAA Tournament in 2003 and the NIT in 2004.
“I’m glad that Rickey is available to take on a position in our department that will take advantage of the talents he possesses beyond his coaching abilities,” said Bertman. “His experience in college athletics and his familiarity with the state of Louisiana will make him an asset to our department.”
“Rickey Broussard did his job and did it well in his two years at LSU,” said head coach John Brady. “I hate to lose him from our staff and I wish him continued success in his new position.”
