BATON ROUGE — Freshmen Brandon Bass was honored with a first-team selection on the All-Louisiana men’s college basketball team announced by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.
Bass, the Southeastern Conference “Freshman of the Year”, averaged 12.7 points and 7.3 rebounds, topping all SEC rookies in both categories for LSU. Others on the first team were Centenary’s Andrew Wisniewski, Amir Abdur-Rahim of Southeastern Louisiana, Grambling’s Paul Haynes and Paul Millsap of Louisiana Tech.
Wisniewski was named the Player of the Year by the panel of media and sports information directors, with Millsap, the nation’s leading rebounder, earning Freshman of the Year honors. Nate Lofton of Southeastern Louisiana was the Newcomer of the Year, while Lions’ Coach Billy Kennedy was the state’s Coach of the Year.
LSU sophomore guard Darrell Mitchell was named to the third team and junior guard Antonio Hudson was named honorable mention by the voters.
