Track and Field Opens Home Outdoor Season with LSU Relays

Lady Tigers No. 1, Tigers No. 2 in First Outdoor Rankings

BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Lady Tiger and Tiger track and field teams are ranked No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, in the first outdoor rankings, released Tuesday by Trackwire.

The Lady Tigers, who held onto the No. 1 ranking during the entirety of the indoor season, retained the top spot heading into the outdoor campaign after closing out the indoor season with a third straight NCAA indoor title.

The Lady Tigers (60 points) hold a comfortable 11-point lead over No. 2 UCLA (49). Nebraska sits in third with 47 points, while Texas and Georgia are tied for fourth with 42 points apiece.

In the men’s standings, NCAA Indoor runner-up Florida edged the Tigers for the top spot with 55 points to the Tigers’ 50. Arkansas and Auburn complete an SEC 1-2-3-4 sweep of the standing’s top spots with 44 and 34 points, respectively. TCU follows in fifth with 32 points.

The LSU track and field team returns to action this Saturday, April 10, when it travels to Coral Gables, Fla., for the Miami-hosted Gatorade Track and Field Classic.
