BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Jessica Ferguson was named the SEC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week today for the second time this season. Ferguson also received this honor the week of March 14. She is currently ranked No. 62 in singles competition.
Ferguson clinched the Lady Tigers’ match on Sunday against Alabama with a win over 37th-ranked Robin Stephenson. Ferguson won, 7-5, 6-7, 6-4 as LSU defeated the Crimson Tide 4-3 and improved to 13-6 overall and 5-5 in the SEC.
Ferguson went 4-0 over the weekend at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles defeating Auburn’s Petra Bercik, 6-3, 7-5 in singles play on Friday and winning both doubles matches as well with partner Marina Chiarelli. The pair defeated Auburn’s Rosenbrock/Cowart, 8-1 and Alabama’s Begovic/Monior, 8-3.
LSU’s victory over Alabama puts them in position to clinch the SEC West for the first time since 2001 with a win over Arkansas next Saturday.
