AMES, Iowa — The LSU track and field team’s positioning at next week’s NCAA Championships got a little bit better Saturday as both Jeffrey Fisher and the men’s 4×400-meter relay team moved up on the NCAA performance list behind school record breaking performances at the Iowa State Last Chance Meet.
Fisher turned in the best indoor 800-meter time in Tiger history, clocking 1:48.44. The time, which was just off the automatic standard of 1:48.30, ranks 20th on the NCAA performance list and could still advance Fisher to the national meet.
The foursome of Robert Parham, Pete Coley, Bennie Brazell and Kelly Willie were exceptional in the 4×400-meter relay, clocking a school record 3:03.97, to shave nearly three second off the Tigers’ previous season-best mark. LSU’s time currently ranks second on the NCAA performance list.
Parham and Lady Tiger Nadia Davy also ran in the 200 and 400 meters, respectively, but did not improve on their previous season-best marks. Parham finished sixth in the 200 meters with a time of 21.32, while Davy was third in the open quarter with a mark of 53.39
LSU’s top-ranked Lady Tigers and the fourth-ranked Tigers will return to action next weekend, March 12-13, when they travel to Fayetteville, Ark., for the NCAA Indoor Championships.
