Swimming and Diving Starts Spring Season Against UL-Monroe

Five Tigers Set for NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships

BATON ROUGE — Five members of the LSU men’s swimming and diving team will compete at the 2004 NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships, March 25-27 at Long Island, N.Y.

The Tigers will take part in the 200-meter freestyle relay, Thursday’s first trial event set to begin at Noon EST. A finals session gets underway at 7 p.m. EST.

Ross Hebert makes his first NCAA Championships’ appearance on Thursday. Hebert is seeded 51st in the 50-meter freestyle.

LSU will also compete in the 400-meter medley relay. The Tigers are seeded eighth. Two other relay teams have qualified for relays, including the 200-meter medley relay and the 400-meter freestyle relay.

Evan Martinec begins his quest to become All-American for the seventh and eighth times in his career. Martinec, the SEC-record holder in the 100-yard backstroke (46.23), will swim in the 100-meter and 200-meter backstroke events.

Christian Clausen takes part in the 100-meter and 200-meter breaststroke events, while Chris Stanczyk swims in the 200-meter freestyle.
