LEXINGTON, Ky. — LSU’s 14th-ranked men’s tennis team begins its second road trip of the season Friday when they take on 18th-ranked Kentucky.
The match is the Tigers’ first of two tough SEC matches. They take on No. 13 Vanderbilt Sunday in Nashville.
“Kentucky has got a strong singles and doubles lineup,” said LSU head coach Jeff Brown. “We just have to have the same attitude we’ve had in the past couple of matches.”
The Tigers (9-1, 1-1) have won their last two matches after recording their first loss of the season against Georgia in their SEC opener. They followed that loss with a 4-3 win over Tennessee and a 5-2 win over 13th-ranked Texas A&M.
LSU freshman Ken Skupski, the reigning SEC player of the week, has knocked off two top-50 opponents in his last two matches at No. 1 singles. Kentucky’s 15th- ranked Jesse Whitten will be as tough as any opponent he has faced this season.
LSU has not played a match in 10 days and has not played on the road since Feb. 21.
“We are going to have to take a very focused approach to this match,” Brown said.
