BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — LSU freshman Ken Skupski was named the SEC men’s tennis player of the week, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Skupski, a Liverpool, England native, is ranked 58th in the nation in singles. He owns a 19-6 overall singles record and is undefeated at No. 2 doubles with partner Peter Richman.
He faced three consecutive top-50 opponents in six days and earned two wins at No. 1 singles. His victories helped propel the Tigers to an SEC win over Tennessee and a win over 13th-ranked Texas A&M.
Skupski beat Tennessee’s 37th-ranked senior Simon Rea on March 7. Just four days later he upended Texas A&M’s 10th-ranked senior Ante Matjevic, 6-2, 3-6, 6- 2, in the Tigers’ 5-2 win.
His only loss in the opening weekend of SEC play was a three-set battle with fourth-ranked Bo Hodge of Georgia.
Skupski and the rest of the Tigers resume SEC action this weekend when they take on Vanderbilt and Kentucky on the road.
